I thought it would be nice to have a chance to moan about our biggest weed problems, and give and receive hints on how to get rid of them.
This year, my biggest problem is buttercups. they have enjoyed the wet weather and I have not had time to curb them.
In my less formal garden they will have to be sprayed, as they really have taken over. On the lawn, on the shady side, they are taking over from the grass. I think I will use a selective weedkiller there, and also try to mow more often.
I just wish all my plants looked as healthy as my buttercups! |

Pulling out the weeds, and ideally removing the roots is time consuming but the best solution. If no time to get the roots out, at least keep tugging away to defoliate them and weaken the root system.
I'm afraid our garden is like one giant weed patch at the moment. Even our front patch of 'lawn' has little grass but lots of yarrow, clover and dandelion family type weeds.
In the back garden, worst culprits are nettles, brambles and bindweed (have hundreds of other weeds too though ) - weeds seem to grow about 200 times faster than cultivated plants Hope to get out weed pulling for a few hours after I've finished some reports.

I'm always amazed on the tortoise forums by the number of people who have great difficulty growing weeds (tortoise's staple food) |
