| I know that my daughter has inherited some of these in her new/old garden, so I'll see about digging up a few (I wanted some for myself anyway) and bring them to the Swapshop day |

OK thnx Marilyn, if you do, and I can't make it, be sure I'll call in for them as I know our lady host too, so not a problem.

I'll see what I can do.
I think we'll need trailers to take everything to the Swapshop day at this rate |

Hi Sarah,
they certainly look like them, they grow quite tall, if yours don't grow anything much over 12inches then they are probably Asters.
Daisies anyway and very pretty...they'll come back year after year the butterflies love them, as do the bee's.
If you have a bit of root, only needs to be about 2inches long I'd love to plant it here????

Thinking about it, they are more likely to be Asters (from memory). Aren't Michalmas the big tall white daisies? I'm definitely no expert and too lazy to get the book of words out.
Going out to sort my own garden while the sun is shining - oh, bliss |

They are definatly tall and the stems go woody in the winter.
i have two clumps of them.i thought it was a simple job of tranplanted the whole clump but it was like spading concrete so i pulled each plant and re planted them .dont think they will catch.
any please tell me what is the best way of sorting these out as if they dont catch i have destroyed one of the clumps and means i only have one left. _________________ For the people of calne and surrounding areas to have your say what matters to you.

That's definitely what my daughter has in a large corner of her garden. They must have been there for donkey's years and are all just sprouting up amongst primroses, ready to bloom late summer ..
I hadn't heard of Moon Daisys but I do remember my parents having them in the garden when I was young - tall, with white flowers and yellow middles - and i think they used to attract blight |

All you need to cultivate the Daisies is a piece of root...get in with a fork, and work at the soil to loosen the root ball, then using clippers or a sharp knife, cut off some bits about 2ins long, plant this in a tray and you'll get a plant or maybe two from it...once the plantlet has started it's second pair of leaves, unearth the original root cutting and transplant into a pot...keep moist...if there are two or more plantlets from the one root cutting then you'll have to cut between the plants carefully and pot up individually... transplant into the garden soon as they have shot up to about four or more inches...
Moon Daisies used to be seen alot in fields, or along hedgerows still some growing in the hedgerows around here..take the Calne road out of Melksham a bit later in the year, September time and the banks will be full of them...The other place I've noticed them growing in abundance is along the banks of the Warminster by pass to Wells...

I checked out the abundance of them in my daughter's garden today (ouch from the sunburnt shoulders after so much digging!)
They are definitely the small purple/mauve flowers that i remember from late last summer and there are loads to spare if anybody wants some and i can take them to the 31st bash. |
