After mentioning that we only get house sparrows, blackbirds and pigeons in our garden, we have been delighted by a pair of goldfinches over that last 3 days. They come to one of the birdbaths and have been seen on the seed feeder and peanut cages. It's been marvellous. OK I'll shut up now. _________________ Bob

Don't shut up Bob always be glad to see new things.
Goldfinches are so colourful they do cheer you up. I have been making a list of all birds that visit my garden the list is up to 25 different species of bird and counting.... Love them all along with the deer that was sat at end of my lawn at teatime.

I do have a very large garden over an acre and lots of wild corners for all types of wildlife only unwelcome visitor is the fox as I keep chickens, plenty of nettles at the mo a bit behind on grass cutting as there is so much to do, so do leave some nettles for caterpillers etc.

The first Cuckoo this year has arrived this evening...
And I have drove it mad !!! I can do a very believable cuckoo call.....
and the real cuckoo really thinks that another bird is here. He was about 1/4 mile away but I called and he made his way to our garden calling for this other bird (me) he keeps flying round all the trees in the area looking for it... Thought I was being unkind so have come indoors so to give it some peace.... _________________ Do it today..

Would love to hear your cuckoo call sometime Kathy - very clever How lovely to have an acre too - lots of scope for different garden areas. We only have 3 chickens now. Also used to have visits from foxes and badger but haven't seen either for a while. Last year I saw a slow worm in our wall. This year a pesky grey squirrel visits.

An acre is LOTS of grass to cut.... worse critter I ever saw in the garden was a snake all upright and travelling so fast across the yard and lawn... I let it go it's own way. The cuckoo stayed for an hour waiting for me... then it got dark, I wonder if he will be back tomorrow..
a grey squirrell visits my walnut tree and my Jack Russell chased it up the apple tree one day the dog got about 5 foot up the treebefore falling to the ground.
